When you build a new Facebook (FB) business page, Facebook will ask you to define the type of business you have. Are you a local store, local business, artist, community organization or national brand? This might sound simple, but take time to make your selection, and choose the best one to suit your needs.

Each option has a different layout. For example, if you chose “store”, Facebook will ask you what your business hours are and the address for your storefront. If you work at home you may prefer to choose a “local business”.

“One of the most common mistakes people make when attempting to market a business on Facebook is selecting the wrong page type.”

There are a few reasons why this is important. FB allows you a small amount of space to promote your business on the Page. This marketing real estate can a great asset. Be strategic and use the space well. Wouldn’t it be great to include your contact info and URL right up at the top of the screen? Yes, but Facebook may tuck it away under the “About” tab. So look over the layout and pick one that has the best layout to market your brand.

Optimize your marketing real estate. Build the page and design a cover image that attracts the viewer.
